Did you know……In 882 A.D, after several years of roaming the north east, the carriers of St Cuthbert’s coffin were granted land at Chester le Street where Eardwulf, the last Bishop of Lindisfarne became the first Bishop of Chester le Street.In Chester le Street there is a unique hotel called Lumley castle which is situated next to the the River Wear.

 

 

The hotel and restaurant have a medieval feel and often host banquet theme nights in keeping with the feel of the hotel. Chester le Street Cricket Ground is home to Durham County Cricket team and literally minutes away from Lumley Castle.
