Consett-&-Stanley-AreaDid you know in? Beamish Open Air Museum which is near the town of Stanley, County Durham, The museum has received a number of prestigious awards since it opened its present site to visitors in 1972 and its presence brings many visitors a year to the Stanley area.
Consett was the first town in the world to have a Salvation Army Corps Band. The band was formed in December 1879 and at Christmas time went out on to the streets of Consett playing Christmas Carols.
Consett is also home to the Empire Theatre, one of County Durham’s oldest theatres. the theatre stages variety acts, plays as well as a Christmas pantomime.
