Washington-AreaDid you know? At the heart of Washington is Washington village home to a stone manor house in beautiful English gardens. The building incorporates parts of the home of George Washington. Washington Old Hall which is now a popular place for wedding ceremonies and corporate events.

Penshaw Monument is at Herrington park just on the outside of Washington originally built in 1844. Its is dedicated to John Lambton, the first Earl of Durham Associated with the Penshaw Hill is the tale of the Lampton worm, a dragon said to have been slain at the time of the crusades. Legends say that the dragon slept whilst coiled around the hill. That is how the hill got its rings.
